What is DOP and why is it used in PVC?
DOP, or di-octyl phthalate, is a widely used plasticizer for flexible PVC products. It helps improve flexibility, processability and mechanical behavior in applications such as cable, artificial leather, flooring, hoses, soft sheets and other plasticized systems.
A professional DOP purchase should not be based on unit price alone. Quality consistency, color, odor, purity, packaging, seal condition, COA availability, delivery reliability and compatibility with the buyer’s formulation all matter.
DOP quality checks before purchase
Initial DOP checks usually include appearance, color, odor, sealed packaging and COA availability. Industrial users should compare the technical specification and analysis results with their production requirements.
For continuous production, batch-to-batch consistency is critical. A sudden change in plasticizer quality may affect color, flexibility, processing behavior, additive demand and final product performance.
Packaging, storage and transportation
DOP is commonly supplied in drums or bulk packaging. Buyers should clarify packaging type, net weight, loading conditions, destination, delivery timeline and transport documents before confirmation.
Storage should follow the datasheet and safety guidance. Even when DOP is not handled like a highly volatile solvent, it should still be protected from contamination, moisture, excessive heat and unlabeled containers.
Common mistakes when buying DOP
A common mistake is comparing offers only by price. If quality, packaging, official invoice, real delivery capability, technical documents and supplier reliability are not reviewed, a low price can create higher production cost.
Another mistake is not explaining the final application. Cable, artificial leather, flooring and flexible products may have different sensitivities, so application and quantity should be included in the RFQ.
RFQ checklist for bulk DOP buying
A useful RFQ should include quantity, destination, packaging type, delivery timeline, invoice requirements, payment terms, technical documents and final application. This allows the seller to provide a realistic and actionable offer.
RGG CHEM uses RFQ for bulk DOP requirements so price, availability, delivery, packaging and documents can be reviewed together. Retail orders with valid published prices are managed through the online checkout flow.
